ALIBABA |
Veteran comedian, Alibaba has warned against any attempt by the Nigerian government to privatize the National Theatre, which is located in Iganmu, Lagos.
This followed rumor that there were plans to sell the structure to private individuals.
The humour merchant explained that rather than put the place up for sale, the National Theatre should be seen as a hub for entertainment in the country, where various events can be hosted. He said it should not be used as a trade centre.

Alibaba stated that the National Theatre is the only iconic structure that has been able to define the country’s history.
He fumed at the idea of holding a concert on Fela, the late Afro-beat legend, at the Eko Hotels and Suite, when the National Theatre should have hosted such event.
“It is a shame that a musical like ‘Fela’ had to be held at Eko Hotel. That is a birthright of the National Theatre,” he said.
